VISION

“Exiliant” literally means “let new things spring forth.” The vision of Exiliant Ministries is to let new things spring forth by bringing hope and healing to the invisible children of the US foster care system.

MISSION

Exiliant Ministries brings hope and healing to invisible children by designing and funding experiences that give forgotten and forsaken foster children a taste of the common, everyday joys of childhood that often elude them.

THE NEED

Foster Care Facts and Figures

  • Over 600,000 children are in U.S. foster care each year

  • Over 200,000 children enter foster care every year

  • More than 75% of foster children in the US are in foster care due to neglect

  • Girls in foster care are 2-3 times more likely to experience teen pregnancy than their peers

  • 60% of the children rescued from human trafficking were once in foster care

  • 31% of the children who grew up in foster care experience homelessness as an adult

  • High school dropout rates are 3x higher for foster youth than other children

  • Just one out of every five foster youth is at grade level in English and language arts in 3rd grade, and only 9 percent are at grade level in math in 8th grade

  • In comparison to veterans, former foster youth are twice as likely to suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

ABOUT THE NAME

For those who are language buffs, Exiliant means “Let new things spring forth!” It is the third person plural, present tense, subjunctive mood, and active voice (!) of the Latin word “Exilio.” The big idea of Exiliant’s name is the concept of “something new bursting forth, the beginning of something surprising or unexpected, and/or the birth of something beautiful and new.”

With that in mind, it is Exiliant’s vision that, by making the invisible visible, we can work together to “spring forth” hope and healing for the extremely vulnerable, and oftentimes forgotten, children in the US foster care system.

up for a whole lot of yesterday."
